Many commercial experimented (and still do) with various healthy foods they can offer their in-flight passengers. But they have found that passengers still rather choose the salty and carbohydrates-filled goodies versus the healthier fare. Some of the reasoning behind these less-than-optimal choices is because people that are flying aren’t necessarily eating because they are hungry, they are eating because they are bored and are looking to pass the time. Alaska Airlines offers several coach class options including vegan and gluten-free foods as well as chicken and vegetable meals. However, they found passengers rather order the quarter-pound cheeseburger. United Airlines tried offering active and organic snack boxes with high protein, low-fat and organic items in the past, but ended up donating most of the food to food banks before eliminating them from their menu. Their most popular now is a tapas snack box that has nine different foods from almonds to olives. Delta Airlines has many choices including a low-fat Greek yogurt with fruit and nut bar, toffee-caramel popcorn and Pringles.

More Complaints Against Commercial Airlines
Travel and Leisure recently released a survey compiling commercial airline complaint information from the Department of Transportation. The legacy airlines take up the top spot for complaints followed by the low-cost airlines and regional airlines. The top 5 commercial airlines passengers are complaining about include at number one, Delta Airlines with 1.96 per 100,000 passengers, followed by United Airlines with 1.34 per 100,000 travelers, then US Airways, Northwest Arilines and American Airlines. The list based on last year’s data, so Delta and Northwest are still listed separately. The low cost carriers scored well. JetBlue made it tenth on the list and Southwest made it 19th on the list with only a .21 complaints per 100,000 passengers.
