It was flown by two experimental test pilot and took off from Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport at 1:41pm local time. The Gulfstream G650 achieved an altitude of 6,600 feet and a speed of 170 knots. It offers the longest range at the fastest speed in its class. It’s powered by Rolls-Royce BR725 engines and can travel 7,000 nautical miles. The press release goes on to say that the business jet remains on schedule for type certification by 2011, followed by entry-into-service in 2012.

There's a New Gulfstream in Town

Just recently, Gulfstream Aerospace in Savannah, GA, rolled out its new flagship business jet called the G650. According to articles and blogs across the web, this jet will be able to climb to an altitude of 51,000 feet and travel 7,000 nautical miles at 0.85 mach, with a maximum speed of 0.925 mach. The cabin is 102 inches wide and 77 inches high, the largest purpose-built in business aviation. It will seat up to 18 passengers and boasts 16 windows, allegedly the largest in the industry. The G650 also features improved sound levels, a vacuum toilet system and in-flight access to 195 cubic feet of usable volume in the baggage compartment. Its first deliveries will be scheduled for 2012.
